Rules & Guidelines
AAU Membership
All coaches and athletes must maintain an active AAU membership. However, as the Gym Stars program is a separate entity from USA and AAU programs, compulsory music/choreography may not be used in routines on floor and beam. If you have any issues obtaining an AAU membership, Liz Nichols will assist you. You may contact her at aaunichols@bellsouth.net or 678-596-1374
Level Requirements
There are two levels in the Gym Stars program. Level A (lower) and Level B (higher). Gymnasts are allowed to switch levels across events (i.e. gymnast may compete level A on bars but then compete level B on floor). Club Owners and Directors, please be sure to verify your athletes' levels on each event with your coaches.
*Please view the specific skill set requirements for each level by clicking 'Level Requirements' and viewing the Gym Stars code on the left side of this page
Level Changes
Level changes must be sent to the meet director NO LATER than one week prior to competition date. NO level changes will be permitted the day of competition.
Judges & Scoring
Gym Stars meets do not require official judges; coaches may serve as judges. Deductions should follow the Gym Stars scoring outline and reflect level-appropriate composition and skill requirements.
Club owners and directors—please ensure that all judges are familiar with the Gym Stars program and scoring expectations. While we strive to make every meet a positive and encouraging experience, scoring should remain realistic and progressional.
Scores should typically range from 7.0 to 9.5, with 10.0 reserved for truly exceptional routines. The average score in this program typically falls between the mid-8s and mid-9s. Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of scoring is essential to the success of the program.
*Scoring info found under 'Scoring' on the toolbar on the left.
Awards
The Gym Stars program requires that every participant receives an award. You may award additionally and give as many awards as possible!
Hosting
If you are hosting a meet, please be sure you have reviewed all guidelines outlined on the Meet Director page linked on the toolbar on the left. Classes may not be scheduled at the same time as competitions within the host gym.
Competition Attire
Any style of competition attire is acceptable (tank or long sleeve, etc.) Gymnasts may wear shorts. Warm ups are optional.
Meet Entries & Spectator Fees
Entry fees range from $50-$55 with an additional $10/late entry. Door entry may not be more than $10/person and children 5 and under are free.
Meet Execution
All Gym Stars meets must follow either a Capital Cup or Traditional format to ensure efficiency and avoid marathon-length events. All four events should run simultaneously, with no multiple flights, no-touch warmups, or bump-in warmups.
Many Gym Stars coaches are new to the competitive environment, so creating a clear, supportive meet structure helps build confidence and comfort.
When registering for a meet, communicate any special needs with your meet director in advance. While we aim to be flexible, not all requests can be accommodated. Please approach these situations with kindness, patience, and respect.
